Matt Merritt has been promoted to retail manager of Heartland Bank and Trust Company’s Uptown Normal branch. Merritt brings more than six years of retail experience, including 2 1/2 years of management experience and two years of banking experience. His background reflects a strong focus on customer service, active listening and building trusted relationships with customers across the Bloomington-Normal community.
About Matt
Merritt, a Bloomington native, graduated from Normal Community West High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in communications – mass media from Illinois State University. He began his career at Marcus Theaters, where he worked as a theater associate, shift lead and assistant manager. He said those roles helped shape his passion for assisting customers and creating a positive experience through strong product knowledge and service.

At Heartland Bank, Merritt focuses on helping customers find solutions that fit their needs and on building long-term relationships. “Seeing customers leave our interaction feeling confident and supported is what makes the work meaningful to me,” he said.
In the community, Merritt participates in monthly park cleanups hosted by Uptown Normal at O’Neil Park in Bloomington, volunteers with the Midwest Food Bank and volunteers with the Boy Scouts in Bloomington-Normal. In his free time, he enjoys pickleball, camping, video games, disc golf and hiking.
