Employee Stories: Kammy Forsberg

About Kammy

Kammy is a talent acquisition supervisor at Heartland Bank and Trust Company. She began her banking career in 2012 at American Midwest Bank (AMB) where she held a dual role spanning human resources coordination and accounts payable. After AMB was acquired by Heartland Bank, she continued building her career in human resources and recruiting.

Kammy’s Story

Kammy started her career at the DeKalb County Courthouse while attending Northern Illinois University. She later became a full-time felony clerk while completing her associate degree. After having children, she moved into bookkeeping to avoid late trial hours. After several years, she took a role with a private attorney and continued working across law firms.

She later joined AMB in a dual-position role combining human resources and accounts payable. After the acquisition, she transitioned into a human resources generalist role at the bank and later specialized in recruiting and talent acquisition.

Kammy values community banking because she grew up in a small town and has seen how community banks support local businesses and give back. At the bank, she sees that through relationship-driven branches, a supportive team environment and an emphasis on community involvement.

Professional Growth

Kammy’s first role after the acquisition was as a human resources generalist, where she gravitated toward recruiting and was able to focus her career in talent acquisition. She credits her manager’s advocacy and her team’s support for helping her move toward the work she most enjoyed.

The bank has supported her development through talent acquisition conferences, internal manager and people training, and learning tools such as LinkedIn Learning, along with ongoing professional resources through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She values recruiting because it continually evolves and because the outcomes are tangible, especially when she can connect the right person to the right role, including milestone moments like a graduate’s first offer or helping someone reenter the workforce.

Advice from Kammy

“Let your manager know your long-term goals; they can’t help you get to where you want to be if you don’t articulate it.  Don’t be afraid to try things out of your comfort zone. Take advantage of our Job Shadow Program to learn about other departments and never stop learning.”
